There is no limit in the software. You can insert as many photos as you wish.
Always consider, however, what the effect on the viewer will be.
Less is often more. A few large photos often have a better effect than many small photos.
So here is a tip: Display photos in a large size and preferably insert more on one side or the other.
Then, your photos continue to make an impression for years to come.
You can change your chosen paper type by clicking the "paper type" button in the software (bottom left).
The CEWE PHOTOBOOK can be ordered with different paper types.
However, not every format is available in all three paper types (digital printing, glossy and photo paper).
The choice is:
Choose from the different categories and decide on a format of your choice.
You can save your CEWE PHOTOBOOK as follows: In the object toolbar, click the Save" icon.
With this symbol you can save the latest editing state of your product at any time.
When you save this product for the first time, a dialogue opens in which you can specify the save location and the file name.
Or "save as"
Like "Save", but you can give the product a different data name or select a different index, in order to produce a copy of your product for example, or to file different versions or editing states.
It is a way of limiting the loss of data in the event of a power cut or a computer crash.
If this option is activated, your current project is saved automatically at certain intervals and can be restored by means of the file" menu item.
The name of the automatically saved file is restore_*.mcf. The asterisk (*) represents the Process ID (PID), which is issued by the operating system.
The automatic save frequency and the directory for the backups can be set in the program options.
|
Tip:
Many restore_*.mcf files accumulate over time, and they may take up unnecessary space on your hard drive. The save location for the backup directory can be found in the program options under directories". |
You can only change the format of the photo book in the same orientation.
That means: A photobook in portrait format can only be turned into another portrait format, a square photo book can only be turned into a square format and a landscape format can only be turned into a landscape format.
You can change the format for your CEWE PHOTOBOOK as follows:
In the program click the change size button (bottom left).
A selection window opens with the available formats.
You also have the possibility of changing the paper type and the cover.
You can change the cover by means of the Cover" button.
To do so, click the triangle. The selection menu opens. You now have the possibility of selecting another cover.
Please make sure you also change previously designed cover pages and possibly the maximum number of available pages!
In the header bar of the software you will find the File" button. Here you can open previously started projects and work further on them.
The most recent projects on which you have worked will be immediately listed, so you can open them with a single click.
restore.mcf is a file backup created by the "automatic save" at certain intervals.
You can use it to restore the last automatically saved version of your photo project after a computer crash.
After you have completed a CEWE PHOTOBOOK, place it in the shopping basket.
To do so, click the Order" button (directly below the working area).
In the shopping basket itself you will receive all the information on the CEWE PHOTOBOOK you have produced.
Now select the order quantity and order channel.
But you can also click the "add products" button.
You will find this in the shopping basket at the bottom left.
Now design and produce further products and also place them in the shopping basket via the order channel.
Beneath the working area you will find a zoom control which you can use to zoom in or out of the page.
You can switch the page view to full screen by clicking the Show preview" button.
This function is located immediately beneath the working area to the right next to the zoom control.
It shows the product page as a full-screen preview.
At the same place in the preview there is a button to end the preview.
In order to produce a CEWE PHOTOBOOK you have two possibilities.
Automatic production using the wizard or manual processing.
See also the answers to: "How do I produce a CEWE PHOTOBOOK? without the support of the wizard? and How can I produce a CEWE PHOTOBOOK with the wizard?"
First consider the cover design.
Note that with the cover variants there will be differences in the possible design.
It works like this:
Start the CEWE PHOTOBOOK application and choose the desired format.
Choose the cover variant.
In the processing mode under the Background" tab you may have various colours available for covers in faux linen, faux leather or premium linen.
Holding down the left mouse button, drag the desired model to the cover.
In the case of covers in faux linen, you have the possibility of placing an individual photo and title text on the front page.
In the case of the hard cover, soft cover and booklet versions, you can design the cover with photos and text completely individually.
To do so, simply drag the desired pictures, layouts and backgrounds onto the cover in the editing field or insert them by double-clicking.
You create a text field by clicking the New text" button in the editing window.
See also How can I select pictures manually?".
In the same way you can now also design the pages of your CEWE PHOTOBOOK completely individually.
The CEWE PHOTOBOOK wizard is a help program which helps the user to produce a photobook automatically in no time at all.
In three steps the CEWE PHOTOBOOK wizard suggests a design, which can then be manually modified: the page order, the page layouts, the backgrounds and photos.
On the left-hand side of the CEWE PHOTOBOOK wizard you will find a photo file browser to select the photos and/or entire directories.
Drag the photos or directories into the central free area of the wizard. They will be inserted and displayed there.
You can set whether your photos are to be sorted by shooting date (time), by filename (alphabetically) or by your rating.
With time sorting, the photos are grouped on the basis of timed events and distributed among the pages of the photobook.
Sorting by filename is suitable for photos which have been well presorted on the hard drive or for pictures which were not taken with a digital camera (scanned, from an image CD, etc., i.e. essentially analogue photos which have been digitised in some way).
The grouping and sorting takes place alphabetically, first by directory names and then by filenames.
Sorting by filename enables you to influence and specify the sequence and distribution of the photos on the pages in advance by preset figures in the names of the folders and photos.
In each folder you can create subfolders for sorting. The numbering can begin again from the start.
In order to select by rating, set the minimum number of rating stars which your selected photos should have.
The intelligent CEWE PHOTOBOOK wizard is particularly useful.
It will help you to locate your saved pictures quickly on the hard drive or on a CD and will assist you in carrying out important, time-consuming work!
With the CEWE PHOTOBOOK wizard you can produce your CEWE PHOTOBOOK with relatively little effort.
You can stop the wizard at any time by clicking Design without wizard.
The procedure involves three steps:
On the left-hand side of the CEWE PHOTOBOOK wizard you will find a photo file browser to select photos and/or entire directories.
Drag the photos or directories into the central free area of the wizard. They will be inserted and displayed there.
You can select and insert multiple photos and/or directories simultaneously or drag them simultaneously across.
You can set whether your photos are to be sorted by shooting date (time) or by filename (alphabetically).

Tip:
Assume you have a directory called "France with the photos "img1004", "img1005" and img1006 and an index called "Asia" with the photos "pic1100", "pic1101" and pic1102. The photos will then first be grouped by directories, and the group with the photos "pic... will come before the group with "img..." photos, even though "i" comes before "p in the alphabet.

When you have selected the photos for your CEWE PHOTOBOOK the wizard calculates for you a suggested optimum number of pages and the average number of photos per page.
The number of pages, photos per page and the filling level will be displayed to you at the bottom of the wizard window.
You can make changes to the number of photos per page and the number of pages by means of the slider controls at the bottom of the window area.
The photos which no longer fit on the photobook pages are automatically separated out and shown in red in the filling level display at the bottom.
The chosen photos are shown with a green checkmark, whereas the photos which have been separated out and are not being used are shown with a red cross.
The selection of photos can now be manually adjusted.
The commands Incorporate marked photos into photobook" (green checkmark against photo), Do not incorporate marked photos in photobook (red cross against photo) and Remove marked elements from selection" (disappears from selection, photo file is not deleted) can be found below the photo previews or in their context menu.
In the Options" below the filling level display (click on small arrow symbol) you can set which photos the automatic system should preferably select for the CEWE PHOTOBOOK.
You can select "faces", "landscapes" and "the best photos".
The best photos" gives preference to photos to which have you have given a high rating (many stars).
Styles are a means whereby the CEWE PHOTOBOOK wizard will help you give an individual touch to the design of the photobook.
Styles consist of backgrounds and rules for backgrounds, rules for the automatic selection of layouts, as well as frame and shading settings for the pictures.
You will find many preinstalled styles under the thematically sorted tabs. By clicking Preview" under the preview images you can see examples of the possible page design of the selected style.
Details of how to use the styles, how to produce your own styles or edit existing styles can be found in the Design styles" section.
Further instructions on using the Style Editor would be beyond the scope of this page.
In the "title" and "subtitle" lines, you can enter the name for your CEWE PHOTOBOOK.
In the case of both the hard and soft cover versions, the title appears on the front of the cover and on the spine, while in the case of the booklet it appears only on the title page.
The subtitle is only used if an appropriate layout with a second text field is available on the cover.
By clicking the preview pictures of the binding, you can specify whether your CEWE PHOTOBOOK will be produced as a hard cover or soft cover book with linen or faux leather cover, or as a booklet. (Where available.)
When you press the Produce photobook" button the CEWE PHOTOBOOK wizard becomes active and inserts the photos, layouts and backgrounds automatically into the photobook.
You can then make further adjustments to your CEWE PHOTOBOOK to suit your requirements The procedure can be found in the section entitled The CEWE PHOTOBOOK".

The CEWE PHOTOBOOK wizard is a help program which helps the user to produce a photobook automatically in no time at all. You will have only a certain amount of control over the appearance of the photobook and the distribution of the photos, and it may be that you do not like the result as much as you expected, or even that you do not like it at all. In many cases the photobook will therefore require further manual adjustment. Everything can be adjusted manually afterwards: the page order, the page layouts, the backgrounds, the photos. Take a look at the pages produced using the CEWE PHOTOBOOK wizard as a suggestion and a draft design and see what is feasible. Whether you use any of it, and precisely what you use, will be a matter for your creativity, which no computer in the world can replace. |
With the CEWE PHOTOBOOK wizard you can select a certain style in which you want the wizard to produce the photobook or design one yourself.
They consist of backgrounds and rules for backgrounds, rules for the automatic selection of layouts, as well as frame and shading settings for the pictures.
You will find many preinstalled styles under the thematically sorted tabs. When you click the corresponding tab, a preview opens in which all styles suitable for the selected theme are displayed. Now click the desired style and then click "next".
Download more styles
At the bottom left of the window is a button to download additional background packages from the Internet.
When you install most background packages, a new style for the new backgrounds, if available, will automatically be installed at the same time.
You cannot edit the predefined styles, except those in the "own styles" category.
Only styles from the "own styles" category can be changed to suit your wishes.
Or you can design your own new style.
|
Tip:
First copy the style. (See below on this page.) |
In order to check, produce or change styles, you have five editing tools available at the bottom right:
Clicking this symbol opens an additional window.
By means of examples you will be presented with combinations of layouts and backgrounds in the style.
Close the preview window by clicking the OK or Stop button.
When you click this symbol, a new window opens in which you can specify the details of the style to be designed.
The following tabs are available:
In this window you can specify a name for your new style. In that way it can be saved and will be available to you later in addition to the preinstalled styles. You can also enter a brief explanatory description of your style.
There are five different methods whereby you can have the wizard automatically arrange your photos on the pages of your CEWE PHOTOBOOK.
Pay attention to the preview pictures.
No margins and no gaps between the photos, no page background visible.
Straight photos, which are partly or even fully overlapping.
Large photos, little background visible on the page.
Usually with the same margins around the edge of the page and between the photos.
Page layouts with at least one tilted (slightly rotated) photo placeholder.
Partly overlapping, often looks as if the photos have been casually thrown down.
Photos loosely distributed over the page, a lot of background visible on the page.
You can choose the models by marking the selection fields.
They can be freely combined.
If e.g. large-scale" and "loosely distributed" are both selected, some pages will have large-scale and some pages will have loosely distributed photos.
Here you can set the rules according to which the wizard will automatically select the backgrounds for your CEWE PHOTOBOOK.
The wizard?s background selection is based on an automatic colour analysis of your photos.
It will make sure the background colours suit the colours of the photos.
It is therefore possible that the wizard will use fewer backgrounds than are available in the chosen style.
You can change or supplement all backgrounds individually when editing your CEWE PHOTOBOOK later.
The following options are available:
- white
- black
- all single-coloured backgrounds
- own photos as a background
- all photos from a selected category (with a selection list of the currently installed background categories)
You can select one or more options simultaneously. If you select no option, all backgrounds will be automatically shown in white.
One of your own photos will always be selected as a background when an event (see The CEWE PHOTOBOOK wizard") extends over at least one double page. In all other cases one of the other options you have chosen will be selected.
In this window you can also specify colours and colour intensity for all multicolour backgrounds.
On the right you can see a colour palette in which the colours and intensity on the pages can be checked as in a coordinate system.
The selected colour settings will be used by the wizard when designing the backgrounds.
In this window you can select individual predefined backgrounds for your CEWE PHOTOBOOK.
In a selection menu at the top left, you can call up the categories under which the backgrounds are stored by theme.
When you click a theme, all the backgrounds in this category appear in the column below.
Use your mouse to select the desired backgrounds here.
Next, click the right arrow and the backgrounds will appear in the previously empty right-hand column.
Here you can produce a collection of backgrounds which you want the wizard to use for your CEWE PHOTOBOOK.
If you wish to remove a background from this selection, select it with your mouse and click the left arrow.
You can use simulated shading to make your photos appear more vivid and three-dimensional on the pages of your CEWE PHOTOBOOK.
Click the Activate shading" selection field at the top left. The possible shading settings will then be activated.
In the square, almost black picture on the left a sun now appears which lights up the earth. If you take hold of the sun with your mouse, you can drag it around the Earth to set the desired angle of shading.
The effect is visible in the large preview window on the right.
At the top above the preview you will see two fields in which you can enter numerical values.
You can enter the distance between the shading and the object in millimetres.
The intensity (i.e. darkness) of the shading is set in percent.
If you set it to 100%, the shading will be solid black. The lowest value is 1%. The shading will then appear almost white. In other words, the lower the percentage, the lighter the shading will be.
Your changes will be displayed to you immediately in the preview.
Under this tab you can set the width and colour of the frame which will be placed around the photos.
You can adjust the thickness of the frame in 1/10 mm steps. That means if you enter "3", you will produce a frame with a thickness of 0.3 mm, not 3 mm!
If you set a frame width of 0 mm, no frame will be drawn.
You can set the colour of the frame by clicking the colour field.
A new window appears, which shows a palette on the left with basic colours from which you can select a colour.
On the right you can see the colour spectrum, which you can use to mix any new colour you wish.
Just click the desired point in the spectrum.
Alternatively, you can set numerical values below the spectrum.
Then click OK" at the bottom right. The frame colour is then defined.
Styles can only be selected individually. It is possible to mix different styles, but with Own styles" and the New" or Edit" functions, you have the possibility of creating your own style. Here you now have the possibility of specifying new content individually.
However, you can also run the CEWE PHOTOBOOK wizard several times in succession by selecting Attach new content" and selecting a different style each time.
The wizard can also be used to design partial areas of the CEWE PHOTOBOOK.
Click the wizard button in the object toolbar in the general tools. That starts the function.
Now you can choose:
The manual insertion of photos in the product editor with the classic photo selection you gives you optimum control of the selection of the photos.
Using the directory browser in the object selection, open the directory which contains your photos.
Select the preview picture of the desired photo in the object selection and drag it to the product editor while holding down the left mouse button.
In the context menu (right-click the photo preview in the directory browser) you have various sorting options, including alphabetically by name and chronologically by production date.
If you select "colour sorting", you will be shown the photos from the current directory in a separate program window grouped according to their colour tone. Double-clicking the photo will incorporate it in the product window.
In the case of photos already used in the product, the preview picture will be marked with a checkmark in the object selection. You can drag a photo more than once into the product editor, e.g. if it is to be exposed in a different size or if you wish to edit the same photo with different functions in the photo show.
Various wizards are also available.
Information on these can be found in the respective sections on the individual wizards.
|
Note:
If you do not wish to use the predefined layouts, I recommend that the Editor is set in such a way in Options" (Program options" section) that the photo adapts to the layout frame.
Conversely: |
Photos that have already been inserted in the CEWE PHOTOBOOK have a green checkmark placed against them in the object selection.
That is the optical information: PHOTO already in CEWE PHOTOBOOK".
I can sort my photos in the object selection on the left. To do so, right-click a photo.
A window opens and you have three sorting options:
In the photo:
If a photo has been used with a resolution that is too low, a warning appears in the photo.
Please drag the photo into a smaller layout frame,
or reduce the size of the layout frame or the photo in the layout frame (if it is an enlarged picture detail),
or choose another photo with a higher resolution.
Please pay attention to the quality indication.
In the text field:
The text no longer fits fully in the text field.
Use less text or a smaller font size, or increase the size of the text field (pull further open).
The software gives you an optimum overview in order to assess the quality status of the photos you have inserted.
If a photo has been incorporated, coloured smileys will tell you whether the picture resolution is optimal for the selected product.
A green smiley means:
The resolution of the picture is high enough to achieve good quality.
That means there will be no loss of quality with this size of picture.
A yellow smiley means:
The resolution of the picture is not optimal in order to achieve good quality.
That means with this size of picture some quality losses must be accepted, or the size of the picture should be reduced.
A red smiley means:
The resolution of the picture is too low to achieve good quality.
(That is also indicated by an Attention!" symbol in the picture itself.)
The picture should not be used in this size, since otherwise it would show clear losses of quality.
Therefore either reduce the size of the picture, or use a different picture with a higher resolution.
|
In the CEWE PHOTOBOOK software, objects (layout frames, photos, text fields, clipart) can be rotated in the Product Editor, |
Left-click the required picture field.
Corner and side handles can now be seen outside the image field.
|
Resize proportionately: |
|
Resize disproportionately: |
You can produce a picture detail through the combination of the size of the layout frame, the zoom factor (Reduce size of photo" / Enlarge photo") of the inserted photo and the position of the photo in the layout frame.
Pay attention to the quality indication in the object toolbar (Smiley symbol).
Here is an example of the steps:
|
Insert original photo |
Reduced size of layout frame |
Move picture motif into the centre |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
Zoom in |
Picture motif back to the centre |
Further reduce size of window |
|
|
|
|
Now the bird fills the picture well.
The layout frame does not necessarily have to be reduced in size. Here is an example of how the same photo can look by only zooming in and moving it (the layout frame has not been changed):
In order to design, for example, travel/holiday photobooks, you can now insert map material from locrMaps directly as a picture.
State the desired location and you will be shown the corresponding map extract.
You can select from a range of styles to determine how the map will appear on the page.
People often want to show on a map where a photo was taken or where they were.
For this purpose you can now insert a map in your photobook.
|
Using a map results in additional costs! Please see the displayed price. |
Clicking on the "new map" symbol opens a dialogue box for the selection of the map.
On the left side you first specify the map extract.
Using a search term makes it easier to choose the map extract.
With your mouse you can move the map extract, and you can zoom in and out using the buttons at the top left of the map or the scroll wheel on the mouse.
That is how you specify the map extract.
When you are satisfied with the map extract, select a style for the map in the centre of the dialogue box.
There are currently two styles, but more may be added.
| For comparison purposes here is a map of central Europe | |
| The first style corresponds to a topographical map. | The second style is taken from a general geographical map. |
|
|
Clicking on "apply" or the style symbol displays a preview of the map on the right.
That can take several minutes depending on the map extract. So please be patient.
When you pressing "incorporate, the map will be inserted as a large-scale picture on the left PHOTOBOOK page.
You can then further resize and move the map.
But whenever you change the size, the map will be recalculated and you must reapply the style.
|
Notes
The map indicated in the CEWE PHOTOBOOK is obviously of low picture quality. |
In the drop-down area:
With these symbols you can insert a full-coverage map as a background on the left, on the right or across the entire double page.
Otherwise the steps are the same as in the New map" function.
